Where to find free outdoor movies in New York City this summer
Outdoor movie season kicks off in earnest this week, with more options than ever
Free outdoor movies are a time-honored tradition of New York City summer, and it doesn’t feel too dramatic to say we might be living in a golden age. We’ve gone way beyond the mainstays like Bryant Park and Brooklyn Bridge Park, with free movie nights cropping up in parks and outdoor spaces all across the boroughs. (It’s fitting, really, when you consider how many classic movies have also been shot in city parks over the years.)
As with beach season, outdoor movie season tends to really kick off in July, so we figured this is prime time for a members-only brush up on what you can go see outdoors this summer (and on which days of the week, for easy last-minute planning), whether your thing is classic rom-coms, thrillers, kids’ movies, or even a documentary about Flaco the owl.
Check out the list below, and get your blanket and a bottle of wine at the ready.
