Let's remember some dives.

As a staff that is full of fans of dive bars, experiencing the rebirth of Siberia brought some joy to our hearts. But it also gave us a tinge of sadness and nostalgia, the way an ad for a camera carousel can, because we started talking about dive bars that haven’t been resurrected. Only a few dives can ever become ageless wonders like McSorley’s, the rest of them just abruptly close one day, the beer and shot specials and strange seating configurations and sticky air there one day and gone the next. So here are some dive bars we miss.

Gotham City Lounge (Bushwick)
“It’s like hanging out in someone’s living room” is a quality one often looks for in dives, and in the case of Gotham City Lounge, this was almost literally true. Ray the owner actually owned the entire building, and so the street-level bar was filled wall-to-wall with his own comic book and sci-fi paraphernalia. The fact that there was no lease to pay also accounted for the bar’s ludicrously cheap drinks, including just $3 for a beer and shot. - Dave
