Regarding the mushrooms that grew on my bathroom ceiling
No I did not eat them. I never thought about eating them.
The first thing I want to lay out about the mushrooms that grew in my bathroom ceiling, right above my shower, is that none of it was my fault. There's a tendency among my friends sometimes to ask "What did you do?" when a thing happens to me. Well I didn't do anything here, I just had a leaky bathroom ceiling that the super put off fixing until the mushrooms finally showed up.
Also they're gone now and no I did not eat them. I never thought about eating them. A few people suggested I try it, and even in jest that is an absolute no-go. More so than most mushrooms, these ones emanated harm and death. Everyone I showed the mushrooms to recoiled from the picture or sent a terrified response on over text. Only one person, a veteran good government activist, seemed nonplussed when I showed them the photo of the mushrooms. This says something about what it takes to gaze into the maw of Albany for decades, I think.
Anyway, the mushrooms, where did they come from? For a couple years now, I've had this issue with the ceiling above my shower. Two years ago a solid square chunk of it fell down while I was gone one weekend, seeing Waxahatchee in Asbury Park. The ceiling collapse was the culmination of some mystery drip that fell into my shower on and off, but since it fell into the shower, never made much of a mess.
My super fixed the hole in the ceiling, but after a couple of years of peace from the mystery drip, it came back. Maybe it was something in the plaster that was used to fix the hole, maybe it was just the heat and humidity of the summer through mid-July, but one day I looked up and there they were, the ceiling mushrooms.
