You can't stop me from listening to the radio. (Photo collage by Dave Colon)

We've made it to almost the end of the year (don't say it's over yet, we might not make it) and that means everyone out there is doing their best-of lists. I thought about doing my favorite songs of the year, in part just to prove to the world that I listen to music that comes out these days, but I'm not a music writer and I'm not gonna pretend that I'm one. That being said, I do be listening to WFUV a lot and so I have more judgements on some singles I've heard.

It's been a little while since I popped up with these thoughts because somehow my radio tuner on my stereo got all fucked up and I was resisting switching to listening to the WFUV stream. So much of my life involves the computer these days and it was nice to have something that didn't. Also I like the fuzz from a not-quite-perfect signal coming through the speakers. Oh well! So, for the final time in 2025, here are some brief thoughts on singles I've heard on WFUV.

(Oh also we're launching a live show on Jan. 6 and as a member you get $5 tickets! Read to the end for info.)

Tyler Ballgame, "Got a New Car" - You hear this song and you think he's a weird little guy but then you look at him and he’s not a weird little guy. Interesting how that works.

Tame Impala, "Dracula" - I know that it's metaphor and it's not about literally being Dracula and I will dance to it on the inevitable occasion I hear it on a Halloween playlist but I can't help feeling like this is a real life version of "Werewolf Bar Mitzvah."
