Somehow more brief thoughts on singles I've heard recently on WFUV

Listening to WFUV at just the right time has led to some interesting outcomes for me recently.

Here's some more stuff I've been listening to. On the radio. (Collage by Dave Colon)

The other day I was listening to the radio, when Callie, fiancé of the Tim and friend of Dave, texted a group chat a video of our friend going absolutely nuts on "Sweet Jane" at karaoke. As it happened, WFUV was playing the very same Velvet Underground song and as I hit play on the video to see what she'd sent over, our friend was belting out the chorus to "Sweet Jane" just as the band on the radio was doing the same thing.

And then a different day I was doing the dishes and was sad about a girl or whatever and Chappell Roan's "The Subway" came on the radio, and despite the fact that I was lukewarm on it when I talked about it last year, I gotta say it really hit at that moment. As always, my insistence that you listen to the radio comes down to the fact that letting someone else drive your music sometimes can lead to some interesting outcomes, timing-wise or emotionally. And that is why I am here yet again to tell our paid members what I think about some of the new-ish stuff WFUV has been putting out over the airwaves.

CMAT, "When A Good Man Cries" - The music enjoyer in me loves “I waited for love/with a cricket bat” as an opening line. The current-events-paying-attention-to-er in me wonders if American soft power will ever be as strong again to create something like an Irish lady named Ciara doing down-home country.

Silvana Estrada, "Dime" - Diantres, cuando ella canta “Da da da/da da da da/da da da,” por eso lo inventaron el 😭😭😭 emoji.
